Our History

A Storied Course with a Championship Legacy

Since opening in 1987, Blue Heron has been a standout in the Rochester golf scene. Originally developed by locals  Norman and Nelson Leenhouts, and designed by Pete Craig and Dick Bator, with insights from golf legend Jack Nicklaus, the course was crafted to challenge players with its strategic layout and unique design—no two holes run parallel.

From hosting Hall of Famer Jack Nicklaus in an exhibition round to welcoming golf greats like Greg Norman, Arnold Palmer, and John Daly for the Hillside Skins Challenge, Blue Heron has a history of championship play. Over the years, it has been the site of prestigious amateur tournaments, bringing out the best local talent.

Now fully open to the public, Blue Heron Golf Club continues its tradition of great golf, welcoming players to experience a course shaped by legends.  Conveniently located just east of Rochester, Blue Heron offers the perfect blend of championship golf and scenic beauty. Nestled in the heart of Macedon, NY, the course provides an escape from the city while remaining easily accessible for golfers across the region. Whether you're a local player or visiting from out of town, Blue Heron delivers an unforgettable golf experience close to home.
